The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) reaffirms its zero-tolerance stance on reckless and irresponsible road behaviour following coordinated enforcement operations, roadblocks, and targeted patrols conducted across the City of Johannesburg from Monday, 20 July 2026 to Sunday, 26 July 2026.

During this one-week operational period, JMPD officers successfully apprehended a total of 211 motorists found driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol.

Driving under the influence remains one of the leading contributors to fatal road crashes and pedestrian fatalities within the municipality. The JMPD continues to deploy specialised units, regional operational teams, and Alcohol Evidence Centres (AEC) across all regions to detect and remove intoxicated drivers before harm occurs.

Arresting 211 intoxicated drivers in a single week highlights an ongoing, reckless disregard for human life on our roads. Driving under the influence is not an oversight, it is a conscious choice…
