The death toll has risen to 10 lives lost in the Cato Ridge Taxi Crash

UPDATE: The death toll has risen to 10, with a further five people seriously injured and requiring Advanced Life Support interventions following the accident.

It has since been established that a single taxi lost control and crashed. The driver and conductor survived the accident.

Mi7 Emergency Medical Services treated and transported two of the seriously injured patients to hospital, while another emergency medical service transported the remaining three.

Several of the deceased were trapped beneath the wreckage, with firefighters using hydraulic rescue equipment, including the Jaws of Life, to recover them.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
