An Armed Response Officer was shot during a robbery at Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga – KZN today (Sunday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were inundated with calls from frantic shoppers requesting assistance after reports of gunshots being fired. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.
According to information received, a group of armed suspects held up a jewellery store inside the mall. As the suspects attempted to flee, they opened fire with rifles on the Armed Response Officer from a private security company who was entering the mall in his vehicle in response to the incident. The Officer was struck during the exchange. Several shoppers sought refuge inside nearby businesses as the incident unfolded.
Reaction Officers are currently (16:37) searching for the armed suspects….
