“This pattern has become more typical recently as opposed to the historic trend where southbound traffic volumes (towards KwaZulu-Natal) tended to be higher at the start of the Easter weekend,” says Thania Dhoogra, chief operating officer of N3TC.
In the last hour, 924 vehicles per hour were recorded travelling in a northbound direction (towards Gauteng), at Mooi Plaza, while 1158 vehicles headed south at De Hoek Plaza.
These busy traffic volumes are expected to continue until around 19h00 this evening and commence again from around 04h00 tomorrow (Friday) morning, with busy conditions likely to continue until around 10h00.
