Mpumalanga MEC pays a visit to the Lebombo Border Gate, Mpumalanga

As part of assessing operations at the Lebombo Border Post amid expected increased movement of people into Mozambique due to anticipated protests by undocumented foreign nationals on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie, visited the border gate today (Monday, 29 June 2026).

During his visit, the MEC was briefed that many travellers started crossing from last week Thursday, throughout the weekend, and into Monday morning. At the time of the MEC’s visit, traffic was flowing and there were no disturbances reported at the port of entry.

The MEC reassured Mpumalanga residents and visitors that security remains on high alert and that any person who breaks the law will be dealt with accordingly. He also called on members of the public to report any wrongdoing, suspicious persons, or activities to the police without delay.
