The N2 between Tsolo and Mthatha towards Qumbu has reportedly been brought to a standstill following violent protest action near Maqanyeni in the Eastern Cape.

According to reports, protesters blocked the road, causing severe traffic disruptions and leaving motorists stranded for hours. There are also allegations that shots were fired in the area, raising serious safety concerns for motorists and truck drivers.

Authorities have warned road users to avoid the route amid fears of possible looting and escalating unrest.

Although the exact cause of the protest has not yet been confirmed, communities in the area have previously raised concerns over poor service delivery, water shortages, deteriorating roads, and other local grievances.
