Mass Casualty Incident on R34 Claims Multiple Injuries After Soccer Team Bakkie Overturns on the R34 outside Gluckstadt, KZN

This evening, at approximately 18:30, KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service was dispatched to a high-priority scene on the R34 outside Gluckstadt following reports of a severe vehicle rollover.

Upon arrival, emergency first responders were met with a chaotic and harrowing scene. A single bakkie, transporting a group of passengers returning home from a soccer match, had reportedly lost control, veering off the road and overturning multiple times, leaving occupants scattered across the road way.

Paramedics immediately initiated a mass casualty triage protocol to manage the high volume of patients. Following a rapid and thorough assessment, it was determined that six occupants had sustained serious injuries, requiring advanced life support interventions on-site. An additional 17 occupants sustained various minor injuries.
