KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service and multiple emergency agencies responded to a two-vehicle collision this afternoon on the Natal Spa Road near Vryheid. A fully loaded minibus taxi, transporting passengers returning from a church function, collided with force into the rear of a bakkie amidst a violent thunderstorm.

The devastating incident occurred at precisely 16h00 in the challenging conditions of a severe downpour, which significantly compromised visibility and road surface grip. The minibus taxi, carrying thirteen occupants, sustained extreme frontal damage after the impact.
First responders were faced with a complex rescue and treatment operation. The collision’s high impact resulted in thirteen injuries among the taxi’s occupants, ranging from minor to serious.
